. president obama is warning of dire consequences for all of us in lawmakers don't act quickly. we're talking about those forced budget cuts that take effect march 1st, slashing $85 billion from spending across the board this year. but with just ten days left, the consequences are backing more alarming. president obama outlined some of them today, told congress, let's make a deal while there is still some time. >> my door is open. i've put tough cuts and reforms on the table. i am willing to work with anybody to get this job done. none of us will get 100% of what we want. but nobody should want these cuts to go through because the last thing our families can afford right now is pain imposed unnecessarily by partisan recklessness and ideological rigid tea here in washington. visually, the president tried to make that point by having law enforcement officers standing behind him. many of them could lose their jobs. our joe johns is covering that with the different ways that the budget cuts could directly affect you. we also have renee marsh covering the potential cut and how it kol affect the fo
cain and lindsey graham. it is also interesting to note, jon, lindsey graham is someone who supported obama supreme court nominees. he clearly is opposing hagel here. jon: primarily what a lot of these senators want is information on a number of fronts, especially on the benghazi attack. what happened, how muc did the white house know, how involved was the president? that's what they're looking for, right? >> yeah, that is what they're looking for. they did ask some questions of hillary clinton about what she said to the president. their talks that night. they want more information as far as what, what was happening that night as these reports were coming in that christopher stevens and others were in danger. what was the white house doing? they want more details on it. until they get those details senator john mccain said looks like he would support the filibuster. earlier in the week he was saying, suggesting he wouldn't. but he wants more answers. until he gets the answers looks like hagel could be stonewalled at least for this week. jon: how interesting and maybe ironic that the pivotal vote or

to president obama last night, senator marco rubio of florida. good morning, senator. thanks for joining us this morning. >> good morning, george. thank you. >> so, you laid out some very clear differences with the president last night on the core economics. i want to look at where there might be common ground. let's go to the issue of guns, to begin with. you said that we can't have any proposals that undermine second amendment rights. but do you agree with the president that there should at least be an up-or-down vote on his proposals? >> well, i mean, you can say that on any issue in washington. it has to work through the legislative process. there are other issues that should have an up-and-down vote, as well. we should have a budget. we should have a real plan to save medicare. we should have a real plan to grow our economy. we should have a real plan for tax reform. all these deserve an up-or-down vote, as well. now, as we said last night, we were all heartbroken and we were all sympathetic on what happened in connecticut. we need to prevent that from happening again. unfortunately, a
coming at us. we got dodd-frank, which isn't out yet, really. and we got obama care. and obama care, when you look at the complexities in that plan, health care costs are going to go up, they're not going to go down. and you've got temporary workers to deal with. retail has got a hell of a problem. going from 35 hours a week to 30 hours a week for a temporary employee. if you've got 50 employees. you want 49. there's so many complexities in these two things. so my concern about acceleration, is regulatory. warren may have a different view of that. >> interesting thing is i agree with everything jack has said, but it's -- it's i don't come away as pessimistic as he does. but he's absolutely right about, you know, about what's happening with health care, and everything. i don't disagree with a word that he said. that he said. >> and i'm not pessimistic, warren. i'm not pessimistic. i just think we -- we're at a position where we could really take off if we had the right policies. >> yeah. well i -- i -- the interesting thing kind of is that america really is doing better than the rest of th

this heartbreak. >> this ad comes in the middle of president obama's push for tougher gun control legislation. abc's reena ninan is in washington this morning. reena, does the white house get a sense they're gaining traction on this issue, despite all of the opposition in congress? >> reporter: all the issues are pushing of all of them. they believe universal background checks might be the most likely to get pushed through in congress. there's still very much a tough, uphill battle. but what is helping the white house, unfortunately, are these sad, sad cases of these shootings. sandy hook. yesterday, we saw the president actually break down and cry as he was delivering some awards to people who were there, adults involved in this situation, with that shooting. so, universal background checks, dan, the most likely to see some action here in washington. >> on another note, we're hearing these reports overnight that a supposed insider is saying that he knows for sure that it's a done deal that hillary clinton is going to run for president. any truth to this at all? >> reporter: we are looking for any
